Meet the Team

Experienced in Independent Care in Wilmington, NC

Katie Manning
Executive Director

I joined the Wilmington team July of 2016 after serving at our Apex community as Director of Marketing for 3 years.  The energy and vitality of the staff and residents give me an encouraging platform which allows me to play an active role in enriching the lives of each of our residents.

Originally from Florida, I attended the University of Kentucky and earned a degree in Marketing. I began my career out of college working in Property Management for a large multi-family housing company.  This role was a valuable stepping stone to the senior living industry.  I was able to gain knowledge from different aspects of the industry by working in business development for a health care services company, and then more hands on experience as Marketing Director for an assisted living community prior to coming on board with Cambridge Village in Apex.

My love for this industry stems from my close relationship with grandparents and helping my family care for my grandfather who had Alzheimer’s.  Now in North Carolina, I am 10 hours away from my immediate family so the staff, residents, and families at Cambridge Village are truly my family.  I sincerely value working with every family that walks through our doors.  When not at Cambridge Village, I enjoy staying active, working out, love for animals, the ocean, diving and traveling.  An avid Kentucky Wildcat basketball fan, I also love cheering  on my favorite team….GO CATS!

Pierrette Cortner
Community Relations Director

During my career, I worked with Marriott and Intercontinental Hotels Group, joining the senior living team at Cambridge Village was a natural progression. When I first spoke with Kendall Oliver, the owner of Cambridge Village, he shared his vision that his communities be modeled after hotels. I knew immediately that his company was the one I wanted to work for.

Cambridge Village combines the comfort of residency with the amenities of a resort and a staff with what I call a genuine spirit of hospitality. There is no truly no other place I would rather represent.

My role as the Community Relations Director is to be the stepping stone between Cambridge Village and Wilmington. It is so important to us that our residents feel connected to the Wilmington community and that the coastal community knows they are always welcome at Cambridge Village. Creating liaisons to ensure Cambridge is a vibrant, connected community is what I do on a daily basis.

On a personal note, my husband and I moved to Wilmington from Maryland in 2001. Between the beach, the historic area and UNCW, everything we want is right here under the sun. When I am not at Cambridge Village, I am most definitely working out, taking a pilates class or keeping pace with my very busy and talented family. Some of our favorite things include Lewis Berry Farms’ ice cream and berry picking, white water rafting, and Sunday afternoons at the beach.

Kelly Mullins
Resident Relations Director

I was born and raised in Louisville, KY where I married Kevin and we had two children. We moved to Atlanta, GA for four years before moving to Wake Forest, NC in 1993. I have had many roles over the last several years including wife, mother, grandmother and serving alongside my husband at Faith Baptist Church in Youngsville, NC for 20 years.  I have also held administrative positions in both the construction and communication industries.

I believe living in “community” is key to a richer, fuller life. It is in community that we can both encourage others and be encouraged by others. The community at Cambridge enables us to do just that as we share our life stories and live alongside of one another. We all experience community by participating in the incredible variety of activities offered.  There is everything from playing games with friends, shopping, movies, enjoying beautiful music and singing, celebrations of all kinds, trips to restaurants, museums and so much more.  And did I mention the food is great!?!

I am truly thankful for the opportunity to serve you and be part of a great team. Thank you for making me feel so welcome!

Fitness and wellness has always been an important part of my life. It all began at the age of 5 when I was enrolled in gymnastics and later went on to compete in regional competitions. The unfortunate part of gymnastics is the high risk for injury. Little did I know, the injuries I would accrue throughout the years of gymnastics would show me how important the aspects of fitness, wellness and rehabilitation are to healing.

I continued to be fascinated with my body’s healing process through rehabilitation with all of my injuries. During the year I spent rehabilitating my knee, I had become intrigued with the way the therapist interacted with me and with other patients. The ability to connect with a variety of patient personalities was a strength I saw in myself and it solidified my decision to attend East Carolina University, where I received my B.S. in Exercise Physiology. Following graduation I worked full time as a Physical Therapy Technician which provided me with a way to pursue my vision of creating a program for patients to transition into a wellness program after being discharged from therapy.

I have been able to contribute my interactive and fun style to number of programs and have enjoyed working with Senior Active Aging population. After attending a seminar about Functional Aging at The Davis Community, I was able to tour their facility and understand the need for a Wellness Coordinator in that environment. With my personal experiences, combined with further education and training, I have been able to make a positive and influential contribution to the residents and members of The Davis Community Wellness Center. I have added beneficial classes and given advice to members about their exercise routines pertaining to their medical history and goals set out. I look forward to having a similar interaction with the residents of Cambridge Village and to make relationships through this new active community.

In my free time, you can find me exploring on my bike, hanging out with family and friends or outside with my dogs, Kona and Sullivan. I have a knack for cooking and love to experiment in the kitchen.

Chef Charlie Blake

It is with much pleasure that I serve as Corporate Executive Chef for Cambridge Village of Wilmington and Apex. I grew up in Peabody, Massachusetts, but am enjoying the milder temperatures here on the North Carolina coast.

Prior to relocating to Wilmington 8 years ago, I expanded my culinary experience as chef in restaurants up and down the east coast, from Boston to Wilmington. A multi-year recipient of the People’s Choice Award in the Pleasure Island Chowder Cook-off, I enjoy incorporating fresh ingredients to create dishes that satisfy a variety of palettes. Being able to develop relationships with the residents and talk with them one on one about their favorite dishes is what makes this such a great opportunity.

My hobbies include fishing, boating, camping, rooting for the Boston Celtics, and spending time with my wife and my daughter, Salem.
